What to Expect from Couples Counseling

What do we do when the bliss of romantic love ends and we find ourselves in power struggles?

In our work with couples and individuals, we teach that the connection comes first; that we must learn how to stay in the present moment and connected if we are to process our personal and relationship hurts with each other.

As relationship therapists, we first co-create with you the sacred space that makes it possible to discuss affairs, addictions, money, intimacy, parenting and other "hot" topics.

We will help you to:

  • Develop tolerance, acceptance & empathy for the internal experiences of the other & how to stay curious & connected, particularly when it hurts or feels like its all about you.
  • Learn how to "check-in" and how to "check-out" to protect the "we", particularly in the face of anger.
  • Practice connecting through silence as well as through words & Intentional Dialogue.
  • Replace blame & criticism with compassion, asking for what you need & appreciation.

We have been a couple for 18 years and regularly practice what we teach; with each other and with our adopted son. We have learned that a good relationship grows with strong intention, time and accepting that disconnections still happen; it's what we do next that matters most.
